Cremation or Burial?

Cremation

There are three crematoriums within the area. Portchester Crematorium, Wessex Vale in Hedge End and The Oaks Crematorium in Havant. The cremated remains should be ready for collection two to three days following the service and will usually be collected by the funeral director, unless other arrangements have been made.  These can then be taken by the family to be strewn in a special place, or scattered in the Garden of Remembrance where the service took place  They could also be buried in a churchyard in a grave or a plot in a cemetery.

Many local cemeteries and churchyards have specific cremation plots and some of these allow memorials, as do the privately owned Portchester Memorial Gardens, which is located next to the Crematorium in Portchester.

If the deceased has been in the Navy, we can arrange for the Navy to bury the ashes at sea. In this case the ashes would be placed in a special weighted casket which we provide specially for this purpose.
